Wake Rowing is a competitive rowing team based in Wake County, North Carolina. The club is open to students age 12 and up, from all high and middle schools in the Triangle area. We have rowers from Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Garner, Apex, Holly Springs and Wake Forest. Our kids come from a number of local schools, including Broughton, Enloe, Green Hope, Martin, Cary Academy and others. We welcome rowers of all abilities, from novice to experienced. We strive to provide a fun, safe, positive and stimulating experience for our rowers. They learn to compete and work as a team, gaining valuable life skills.
The club practices at Lake Wheeler, located about six miles south of downtown Raleigh. Our fleet incudes doubles, fours, eights and a pair. We do sweep rowing and sculling. Fall season practices are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday after school and Saturday morning.
We compete in regional regattas, in nearby states such as Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. Fall is for head racing, in which boats race the clock, in single file, with interval starts, over a winding course of up to 6000 meters. In the spring, rowers compete head-to-head in six lanes over a straight 2000 meter course.
